1940’s Corde Black Crocheted Clutch W/Matching Coin Bag
Corde' handbags were popular during the 1940s when creative and innovative materials had to be used because of a materials shortage due to WWII. Corde' handbags were created using rows of gimp in unique patterns stitched to a fabric background. Advertised in the 1940's as the longest wearing of all the handbag fabrics. This statement seems to ring true since these handbags have traveled through time with refinement, elegance and lasting ability.
This clutch and coin purse were owned by my mother in the 1940s. There is a "mirror" pocket inside the clutch and has a metal zipper closure. The coin bag -lipstick and compact bag- has the original antique brass button closure. The clutch is 12"x7" & coin bag is 4 x 3-1/2". Both bags have a black lining. Both are in very good to excellent condition. The clutch has one whiteish spot on the lower left side (about 3-1/2" from the edge). Please review all pictures description.
